Question re Venice: San Giorgio Vaporetto, No. 2 line

We would like to take the No. 2 vaporetto from San Zaccaria to San Giorgio late afternoon-early evening. And then, after seeing San Giorgio and going up in the campanile (45 min.-1 hour), continue on the No. 2 line down the Giudecca Canal, past Piazzale Roma, and then on up the Grand Canal back to San Marco.

Question: can we do all this on one ticket bought at the San Zaccaria stop, or do we need to get another ticket before leaving San Giorgio?

Thank so much for the input!

It is 5 EUR one way, or 10 EUR return (round trip).

Sam, the OP is talking about continuing on line 2 towards Piazzale Roma, not returning to San Zaccaria--the €5/€10 ferry ticket isn't in play for the whole trip they propose.

To the OP--for a normal vaporetto ticket, you have to be done with your trip and off the vaporetto 75 minutes after you validate your ticket when you first get on at San Zaccaria. It takes 71 minutes just to get from San Giorgio back around to San Marco going the way you want to...so, no, one ticket will not cover what you propose. You could buy the €5 ferry ticket that Sam mentions--that's good from San Zaccaria to San Giorgio--but would need another regular, 75 minute ticket for the part from San Giorgio-P. Roma-S. Marco. You can purchase both tickets at the same time, just don't validate both at San Zaccaria.

Thanks, Dana. I have decided that, with our other anticipated Vaporetto trips, I am going to get the 48 hour pass, which all told will be cheaper than us paying for individual trips. This would include the SZ-SGM and SGM-Piazzale Roma-Grand Canal-San Marco "cruise."

that is a good choice - it almost always works out cheaper, is easier, and gives peace of mind. Reminder - with the 48 hour pass you still need to tap the pass on the reader every time you go onto a dock to take a boat. There are people who check, both on the dock and on boats. It is random so you don't know when or you you will meet them, but if they do come around they will tap your pass on a hand held reader and see when it was tapped in. Even with a valid pass if it hasn't been tapped in they can issue a fine. So just follow the crowd and tap in as you see the machine on the dock and it will flash green and beep. Simple.

Just wanted to add- a length of stay Vaporetto pass is well worth the money. If you will be heading to or form the airport you can buy the pass with the airport bus included- saves a few euros.
We got our pass at the airport on arrival last trip.
