Question re: Tour from Rome to Amalfi Coast

Hi all!

The questions/responses on here have been a tremendous help in my trip planning - so thank you fellow forum folks!

I am planning a two week trip to Italy in early November with my family. During the first leg of the trip, we are doing 4 nights in Rome and are considering doing a full day excursion to Amalfi Coast through a private driver or one of the small-group tours. The drive to Amalfi is quoted as anywhere from 3-4 hours in each direction. With only 4 days in Rome, do you think this excursion is worth it? I am not entirely sure I want to spend so much time traveling when there is so much to see. I understand that taking the train to Naples to transfer may save some time but wanted to avoid taking rail for this excursion as we will be taking plenty of trains throughout the remainder of the trip. If any of you can recommend an Amalfi Coast tour/driver with a pick up from Rome, that would be much appreciated, too. The last time I was in Italy was 11 years ago during a study abroad program so I have familiarity with Rome...but not much else.

Thank you!

Lisa

Not a good idea at all. Take day trip to Orvieto in Umbria or to Tivoli Gardens with it’s amazing fountains.

No

Having a driver take you r/t Rome to Positano or elsewhere on the AC, means 8-10 hours sitting in a car. Pretty much seems like a long drive to 'go to lunch' to me.

In November you will have shorter daylight hours, so factor that in as well.

Thank you both for your replies. I tend to agree. Would love to factor it in but not sure we have the time to do it properly. Thanks!
