Question for the ladies - Capri Leggings in Italy?

I love leggings and would like to wear capri length leggings while in Italy. I'll dress them up with nice LONG tops, and sandals. My question is...will I look odd to locals? Or are leggings popular there too?

Wear what you want and feel comfortable wearing. However, on our trip last month I did not see Italians wearing leggings. I brought leggings (and wore them), but was checking to see if others were wearing them. The ones I saw wearing leggings mostly seemed to be tourists.

Unless you are going to walk around naked, you'll be invisible to any local not working in tourism.

The small % of locals you will interact with is paid to look imperturbable. Anyway they have seen stranger things than leggings, don't worry.

the name gives you a clue here,The name of the pants is derived from the Italian isle of Capri, where they rose to popularity in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Take 'em, Kerry. As others above have said, no one cares what you're wearing as long as appropriate for the churches, which below-the-knee + long tunic will be. Personally, I'd probably eschew leggings of wild designs/color and go for more sedate pattern or solid color.

Pair with a much sturdier shoe than that young lady in the picture is wearing, though. But really, the locals will not be looking at you. They've other things to do, and have pretty much have seen it all anyway!

Wear leggings if you want. I only wear leggings now. Nothing beats the comfort. Plus they pack light and small.
I don’t wear capris because my legs look like old lady legs so it’s not a good look.
Most of my jeans are going to Goodwill. My dress pants went there years ago.

I agree - wear what you want. I haven't seen any Italians wearing workout clothes or "athleisure" (except when they're actively exercising) but no one will give you any strange looks if you do. As someone has already mentioned, the only dress code is when entering churches, but leggings will give you the necessary coverage. Otherwise, there's no need to dress differently to try to "fit in".

Have a great trip!

I am fine with leggings however I would not try to wear them into St. Peter's, you may not get let in. Most churches in Italy do not allow shorts, low cut tops, bare shoulders, and short skirts, I don't think the rules are enforced but at St. Peter's they will be. J

Joanne, my leggings are ankle length and had no problems anywhere. My tunics covered my rear end. Capri legging are below the knee so I can’t imagine any problems.

Echoing horsewoofie, Joanne, Kerry won't have any issue getting into churches with below-the-knee capri leggings and a long top, as long as that long top has at least cap sleeves or longer to cover the shoulder, and doesn't display an immodest amount of decolletage. Just guessing that she's not planning to hang out more than would be appropriate for places of worship.😉
