Hello! We're getting married in May at a little villa in Capannori, just outside of Lucca. Us and our guests, about 30 people total, will be flying into Rome for 4 days prior to going to the villa and spending 6 days there. We're wondering what the best plan is for getting everyone from Rome to the villa near Lucca, and then how to get people to other areas we plan to visit. We want to go to a local winery, and visit Lucca, and likely Florence as well. Thanks in advance for any input!
You could get the train to Lucca, then a bus (E8) to Capannori.
Have you asked your villa, venue or event planner for suggestions?
Great suggestion from Joe: work with your planner and/or your wedding venue. Moving 30 people around at the same time will be no small feat, as well as attempting to feed all 30 at the same time during day trips. Are you thinking all of you will be participating in the listed activities together?
As well will be thinking ahead for some of the other details, such as what your group intends to do/see in Florence. Some of its attractions will involve timed-entry tickets in advance. For a group the size of yours, I'd look into personal guides who can take on JUST your group - including purchase of tickets - or even split it into two groups. The gang here can probably make some recommendations for some excellent guides.
Moving all 30 at once is easy, just rent a coach. For a group that size it might be the cheapest option as well.
Please note that Capannori is the municipality in Italy being divided in the greatest number of small villages, about 40, with 8 different post codes. Be sure you correctly understand where people has to go; private transportation (for example renting a coach) may be the most efficient solution for most of those small subdivisions.
....just rent a coach.
Well there is that. 😉

Renting a coach is not much more complicated than renting a car. And you don't have to worry about insurance since the coach comes with a driver.

We helped a group of 11 people a couple of years ago plan their trip, and Rome Cabs was awesome. They took the group from Rome to Pisa for a quick visit, then to Siena, San Gimignano, before taking them to their final destination in Florence. They were very good and very efficient. We also used them for a night tour of Rome. It is quite spectacular at night, especially with all the monuments, churches, etc. lit up. They will have no trouble accommodating your group. They provided two 6 person vans, and it all worked out great.
