We will be traveling to Paris in a couple of weeks and sightseeing before heading to Italy for Rick's Best of Venice, Florence, and Rome. We are wondering if it's customary to tip the taxi drivers or is the tip built into the fare? Thank you!
In Italy the customary tip for taxi drivers is zero, zilch, niente, nada.
I apply the same policy in France too, although maybe someone on the France forum would know better. But for Italy you are safe with leaving nothing at all.
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my question!. Diana :-)
I usually tip a euro (or whatever a reasonable rounding-up is) if the driver is helping with luggage (carrying it to the hotel door, for example).
In France our family does tip just like in the States. However, I'm pretty sure my French husband never rode in a cab as a kid, unless it was in the cab of a family friend taking the family to the train station as a favor. This may explain why he always tips cabbies.
Thank you for these suggestions. Diana :-)
