I know that Rick's 'Italy' book contains a section on Venice, but does his 'Venice' book contain more information than the 'Italy' book? In other words, if I were to buy both books, would the information on Venice be exactly the same in both books?
The Venice book has significantly more information on Venice than does the much shorter Venice section of the Italy book. You can see this for yourself by browsing through both books(maybe the 2009 editions) at Google Book Search.
I usually buy the city book and the country book, but when I go overseas, I bring just the country book. But for what is missing, walks and sight tours, I photocopy it and then toss it when I am done.
Thanks so much for the information. I will buy both books.
I have the Italy book. I plan to buy some of the 'city' books for my Kindle just to cut down on the weight etc....If you have an e-reader you might consider that.
Sheron, as Kent mentioned, the Venice book provides much more "in depth" information on touring in Venice that that in the Italy book. Whether to buy both books will depend on how extensively you plan to tour in Venice? If you're only going to be there a few days and see the "main sights", the Italy book will cover those. Happy travels!
Thanks for the responses. I'm entering the planning phase for my next trip & am using the books strictly for planning at this point. I think I'll use the 'Italy' book for this purpose & when it gets closer to the trip, I'll purchase the 'Venice' book to take with me for sightseeing purposes. Thanks again for your responses. The idea of downloading the books on an electronic reader device is interesting. It would sure be easier to travel with the reader device than a small stack of books. I see that the prices have come down a lot & perhaps before my next trip, I'll purchase one but when it comes to books, I guess I'm old school & like to be able to thumb through them & put post-it notes on pages, etc. Thanks for the suggestion though.
Take a look at the City book and compare. There are more hotels and restaurants listed, but once you have your room and a few eating pics, you really don't need them. It also includes more info on lesser sites, but if your time is limited, and those sites have no special interest to you...then again, not much value. Overall if the country guide covers it for you in a 2 or 3 night trip, then that is all you need.
Thanks Paul. I think the city book will have some value to me based on what you said. I've been to Venice once before and have seen most of the major sites. This time I plan to return for about 4 days or so & would like to see some of the lesser known sites. Amazon has the 2011 Venice book on sale right now for $12.21 so I may as well buy it now.
