question about Pisa

We are planning to fly into Pisa and then head to Florence for 4 nights. We were thinking of a day trip one day out of florence.
it was suggested that we do our first night in Pisa and then head to florence and do the remaining 3 nights in florence.

Besides seeing the tower is pisa worth a night? should we skip it and do a day trip somewhere else as I think if we have only three nights in florence I am afraid that might not really be enough time for a day trip as well.

Depending on when your flight arrives, it only takes about 2.5hrs to walk in, see the tower and adjoining Duomo, baptistery and historical grounds and walk out. The walk in and out takes an hour.

Of couse, if your plane arrives late in the day, a night in Pisa is in order.

From the Pisa airport, you take the Galileo express train (5 minutes) to the Pisa main train station. There is a staffed luggage storage facility at the south end of the station. 3Euros per bag as of two years ago when we did it.

Then, get on one of the frequent trains to Florence. IMHO, its not worth a night to stay in Pisa.

Based on the current schedule (I have to wait till may for Jet2.com updated sshedule from manchester), it looks like we will arrive around 10 am in Pisa.

good to know it is not worth a night.

I wouldn't bother with spending a whole (most of a) day in Pisa, and a night. I'd be much more inclined to stay in the Cinque Terre overnight and enjoy parts of a day or two there. You can swing back by Pisa on your way to Florence, stow your luggage in a train staion locker (for a small fee, and a photocopy of your passport), hop a bus to the tower, take in the tower for an hour, and then head on to Florence. The C.T. is simply gorgeous and I'd spend a little time there if you can swing it. We were there for a few short hours only (we'd daytripped from Lucca, via Pisa) and I'd sure spend a lot more time there next time I go!

Siena is a good day trip from Florence.
