My fiance and I are headed to Lake Garda in October. We were both interested in biking along the northwest portion of the lake. There are a few links that indicate only a small 2km portion of the bike path is open heading north from Limone sul Garda. Is it safe to continue biking on the road to Riva del Garda before the bike path is complete? If not can anyone recommend a different portion that has a quality bike path along the lake?

I’ve not biked on it myself but I’ve driven on that highway a few times. For the unfinished portions you will be sharing the road with cars on a two lane highway that is not at all wide and has no shoulders, therefore you must exercise caution. That highway also goes through several tunnels, therefore wear reflective gear and make sure you have bike lights in front and back.
That road is no fun as it's quite narrow - especially some of the tunnels. You can follow the road by using Google Maps Street View to see for yourself. Also look at the recent reviews for 'Ciclopista del Garda' on TripAdvisor for the pluses and minuses.
