Question about adaptor for Italy

For our phone charger and appliances, we got a USA to Italy travel adaptor plug, with 3 prongs. Does anyone know is this all we need, and are the 3 prong outlets what is used in Italy? Thanking anyone in advance!

Thank you Christine. Mostly for our phone chargers. The only other appliance I am bringing is a flat iron for my hair. This may sound unnecessary, but to me, the flat iron is very important. If the flat iron is not 110-220 voltage, I will buy a voltage adaptor as well.

Thank you again Christine.

We often come across both 2 prong and 3 prong outlets in Italy, depends on the building or its age. Sometimes you could have the right number of prongs but your adapter still might not work, especially if your adapter is the square box type and the electrical outlet is round and recessed - but any place that we've stayed at in Italy always had an adapter for us that worked if ours didn't.

As far as voltage, pretty much all newer electronics are dual voltage.

I bought three of these several years ago from the Rick Steves store, and they’ve worked well in Italy for my phone and iPad. I like that these will fit into the recessed plugs; we had some previous ones that had the right plug, but it wouldn’t go far enough into the recessed area to connect. I don’t bring anything that needs a grounding plug or a convertor. Most of the plugs I have seen in Italy are the two plug.

Let's get terminology right so we are all on the same page.

An adapter changes the plug so it fits into the outlet.

A converter changes the electricity.

Rather than buy a bulky converter if your flat iron isn't dual voltage consider buying one in Italy.
