Quarantine requirements for Italy after positive covid test

Hi All

I tested positive on September 10 and am self-isolating in Milan. I am trying to find out the rules for leaving quarantine in Italy.

Do they require a negative test? I read that a 5-14 day quarantine is required, depending on circumstances, but what circumstances, and who decides or even knows? I have been vaxxed 4 times, most recently April 2022

I did two self-tests, and I did tell my landlady and Airbnb so I could stay longer to quarantine here, so perhaps they are required to report it.

I have emailed the US Consulate here but haven't received an answer yet, I'll call them if I don't hear back but I thought someone on this forum might know

With luck I may test negative in a few days, but if not I need to make plans to extend my time here.

Thanks very much!

“You must self-isolate for 5 days. In order to be released from self-isolation, you must produce a negative PCR or antigen test. The local health authority determines the type of test they will use and the pattern of testing. You will also need to have been symptom-free for at least 2 days.

If you continue to test positive, you must remain in self-isolation for a maximum of 14 days from the first positive test.”

Important: if you plan to file a claim with travel insurance, you should contact your provider to find out exactly what their requirements are to prove diagnosis and save every receipt.

Thank you for your reply.

Do you know how Italy enforces this, if it does?

My test was a self test, although my landlady and the lodging booking company know of it because they extended my stay to allow me to quarantine. Now I am concerned about having a negative result before I need to decide to cancel my next lodging in another town, and try to extend my stay here

Are lodgings required to report covid cases in their guests? Or do just phamacies/doctors report? How would Italian authorities know I had covid? The US guidelines don't require a negative test, and they are not enforceable, but Italy is more strict

I do want to protect others and follow the rules, but tests can be positive for some time after contagion is gone, and I need to adjust my reservations soon if I am going to have to quarantine for longer. From the number of unmasked people I saw on the Metro it seems the rules are not enforced, but actual covid cases may be required to be reported
