Quaint Hotel in Perugia, Italy Needed - Oct. 16

My sister and are in need of a quaint hotel in Perugia, Italy for the night of October 16th. We're looking to keep the price around 80-90 Euros. (Less would be even better).. Although we'd prefer a room with a private bath, and two beds.

Are we asking for too much? Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Ah nuts! The place I stayed in 2001 would have been perfect, but I guess it's not around any longer. However, the hotel next door is still there. Hotel Fortuna - in a building built around 1300 - and the medieval lane it's on are the very definition of quaint!! ( In fact the lane is so narrow I couldn't get a picture of the hotel I stayed in, so I got a picture of Hotel Fortuna instead as it is on a corner:-) ) But, it's more upscale and more expensive than Piccolo Hotel where I stayed. In 2001 Fortuna cost between L135,000 and L188,000 (about $67 - $94US), but I saw a listing online (just now when I was double checking)of 69Euros.

Perugia is often overlooked or dismissed, but the old town on top of the hill is well worth seeing. Have fun in Italy!

Hi Carol,

We're staying at Albergo Anna in Perugia. I'm not sure about quaint but the price is right at 60 Euros and the location seems good.

Try the Hotel Sant'Ercolano in Perugia. Not sure about "quaint", but quite nice, clean, decent little breakfast, private bathrrom, and helpful folks. It would be within your price range I am sure. We had a small balcony that looked across the rooftops to Assisi. Wherever you stay, find out about the mini metro that takes you from train to town. If you choose the Ercolano you'll find the mini metro is very convenient to that hotel.

Like Penny, we stayed at the Hotel Fortuna in 2003 and really enjoyed our time there. It is about 50 meters from the 2 connected main piazzas. I'm not sure of the price.

Also, a great 1/2 day excursion is to wonder through the streets of Gubbio. It is about 30 minutes from Perugia and easy to find. You can park in the main piazza below Gubbio and walk uphill. I suggest two things to keep in mind: 1.) everything in Italy seems to be uphill, and 2.) the meter maids in Italy are intrepid and on a mission.

Perugia and Umbria are like best kept secrets while Florence and Tuscany receive all of the attention.

Buon viaggio,

RB

Carol- You may have a problem with finding hotels in Perugia that week. The yearly chocolate festival starts the 16th. Here is some info: http://www.bellaumbria.net/Perugia/eurochocolate_eng.htm
I went one year and it was elbow to elbow. People were in a tissy for free chocolate from the chocolate carvers. I felt more safe when I was at a Metalica concert in Padova than when I was at the chocolate festival. It was not the quaint hill town experiance that you might be looking for. Assisi is near by. You may consider going there or to Deruta instead.
