I have been trying to purchase tickets to Vatican for days! My husband has updated my computer. I have tried on my cell phone as well and keep getting "operation not completed" at end of putting in my credit card info. and hitting complete purchase. It says "retry payment" or "back to merchant" as my two options. I am beyond frustrated! Does anyone have any insight into this?

Have you advised your credit card company of the potential foreign charge? The fraud protection system may be keeping the charge from going through. Call your credit card company to see if the charge was presented and declined. You may have to authorize the charge ahead of time. Sometimes a verifed VISA card will work and sometimes maybe paypal. When you use your credit card you may have to pay additional fees imposed by the credit card company.
Your card must be part either of the "Verified by Visa" safety network for online purchases or of the similar one run by Mastercard.
Yes I have informed my credit card company of usage. I have bought train tickets on Trenitalia and tickets to other museums. It is only the Vatican that keeps failing. I just tried again. Still won't go through.
OP - What type of card are you using? Visa? Mastercard? American Express? AND have you tried using a different card?
Try going through Paypal.

I had the exact same problem, and switching to a different credit card worked for me. Trust me, I was very confused and frustrated after trying a dozen or so times with the fist card. I didn't call either card company because I wasn't traveling. Also not sure the reason behind it, but I can tell you that its probably not your computer or website issue....you'll just have to try a different card. Good luck!
People have been having issues with cards that don't have the "verified by visa" protocol. If you're having issues call your credit card fraud department and ask them to institute this protocol. It only takes a minute or two but your purchases will go through. At the same time notify them of your travel plans so they can document when and where you're going.

I had the same problem, too, even after calling my "travel visa" cc company. They assured me my card was open to foreign purchases & that it was probably the vatican's system. It wasn't. I used another card, & it went through immediately. Try another card.
we have a Chase visa card.
The only way we have been able to make purchases to the Vatican was by calling the Verified by Visa department and doing the transaction while they were on the line with us... Same with purchasing tickets for the underground tour of the Colosseum at midnight (our time) 5 days ago.

I'm not sure if it's for all Verified by visa Credi cards or only Chase, but it's worth trying.
I just checked out of curiosity, since we see so many posts about this problem. The number posted above (800-654-9214) is Chase Fraud Operations. So, if you have a Chase card, it should be able to help with a block placed on an account by mistake. It should not work for other brands of cards.
