I have been ckg Trenitalia's website for schedule and prices for an upcoming trip in July. We will be in Venice for 4 nights and taking train to Florence on Sat.July 13. Have always just waited and bought tkts over there either at station or have used Oltrex travel agency in Venice. When I saw how much a person could save buying in advance I decided to try to do this. There will be 4 of us. When I put in 1 person I get a 19 E price for my choice departure times of either 11:25 or 12:25. With 2 people the price per tkt for those times goes to 22.50 E. When I put in 4 people it goes to 29 E per tkt. I got myself all registered on their site and did a trial run buying 1 tkt. Got up to the point where I enter my cc #. There appears to be many seats available but I know they limit the Supereconomy seats. Can I just go through the booking process 4x to get the 19 E price saving 10 E/tkt?apologies in advance for how long this got.
Janet, as you said, super-economy tickets are limited. If you buy four separate tickets, there's no guarantee that you can get all (or any) of them at the lowest fare, or that you'll be able to get four seats together. In my opinion any savings is better than no savings.
I bought tickets for 21 E between Venice to Florence on the new Italo train - Trenitalia's competition. http://www.italotreno.it/en/Pages/default.aspx I checked and it's the same price for July 13. I'm also traveling on a Saturday but in June. Good luck!
Thanks for your replies. Andrea I will have to check out that new train line.
Andria was the Italo website pretty easy to navigate and did you have to register before making your purchase?
