I am having trouble purchasing my 4 train legs for upcoming trip. On TrenItalia website, I am able to add them all to my cart. When I attempt to purchase, I fill out the information fields with our names, birthday, etc; everything with an (). I click on payment type, agree to terms, push continue and a message box stating " purchase is nominative and fill in all () fields. I have! Makes me more crazy due to the 10 minute time limit of items in the cart. So end up losing everything while trying to poke around on site and figure it out. I have tried to create a log in so I would be ready to go, but that didn't work either due to not allowing certain (*) fields to be populated.
So I went over to RailEurope and 2 of the 4 train journeys I am looking at come back as not available yet. The others could be booked. Travel days are June 3 and June 6. And does anyone purchase the ticket/trip insurance? Just curious. Any tips appreciated thank-you.
You might try buying at www.thetrainline.com.
Prices are exactly the same as at trenitalia.
For some trips, look at Italotreno.
Do not use Raileurope. My suggestion would be loco2. Trainline has started to add service fees on occasion. It seems to have no rhyme or reason to when they add them and its typically a small amount, but this happened to me in Spain, and seems to be happening to others. If you've exhausted other options, trainline would be definitely be preferable to Raileurope.
For your information -- Italotreno is a competing private rail company using the Italian rails. Their schedule is not as extensive as trenitalia but sometimes can be a little cheaper. RailEurope is a travel agency and does not always sell tickets for every train. I am guessing they did not have access or the tickets for two of your legs. The only insurance we purchase is medical related. The cost of train tickets are relatively modest so we don't take insurance for train tickets unless there is a special concern.
Just curious- had you already put in your credit card #? I had trouble when I purchased a few weeks ago- it just would not accept my order. I tried with a diff credit card and it went thru- no idea why.
No credit card details entered. I couldn’t get past the first page on Tren italia site without getting the warnings to complete all the asterisks fields. I did take the above suggestion to use the trainline site. It was smooth sailing all the way (because I know what trains I want from multiple entries!) I was able to enter my credit card details and my total had a $6 booking fee for the 4 travel legs. Then it bounced back and said “payment system error, try another credit card or PayPal “. I tried PayPal and got same error. So I’m officially taking a break from this portion of planning for a day or two.
Darlene, have you notified your credit card company that you are trying to make a purchase from an Italian company? Sometimes that does the trick.
There may be something else going on here, though, since you say PayPal didn't work, either. I think that normally gets around the usual international-usage issues.
On trenitalia.com/tcom-en, Are you sure you did not try to enter the wrong mm/dd/yyyy format used in US?
An update: I successfully booked my nonstop ticket for June 3rd from Venice to Florence on the TrenItalia site. I’m not sure what the issue was a few days ago since I used the same credit card info. After much reading on this forum, I have decided to wait on the other legs of my journey until I am in Italy as they are all Regionale trains. Thank you to everyone for your help.
To prevent waiting on long lines in RR stations, download the TrenItalia app to your smart phone. I find it easy to use and then the conductor just scans your screen.
Darlene,
If you'll be buying more tickets in future, I'd also recommend the Trainline.com website that was mentioned in an earlier reply. They sell tickets for both Trenitalia and Italo as well as other rail networks all over Europe, generally at the same price as the rail firms, so that provides "one stop shopping". You'll need to register on the website first, including payment method, but after that the process is very easy. Should you have any problems, I've found their customer service to be very good.
I am having a similar problem. I am trying to book from Veince to Rome Termini in Loco2, but it says "No tickets found" for June 19 departure from Venice. Works just fine for May 17 for instance (I am getting options)
From seat61
"Booking for high-speed trains opens 120 days ahead, except when the mid-June & mid-December timetable changes are imminent when the booking horizon shrinks to less than this with some trains loaded before others."
Could this be the reason ? when should I look to book the tickets for 4 adults and 2 kids ?
thanks
I just went out to Trainline to book tickets for June as well, and I get the message "No Tickets Available". I then went and changed the date to tomorrow, and many options show up. I suspect the date in June is too far out for purchasing just yet. I'll contact Trainline and see when the June tix purchases are available (if indeed that is the issue!)
