Purchasing train tickets

Taking the advice of buying train tickets on my departed plane I loaded the Trenitalia app. Could you help me with classes? As a non-euro citizen do I qualify for the senior category, I usually find they are limited to Euro citizens? What might be the difference between Base @ 69€ and Economy @ 48€. And economy says it is changeable.

Also the App is not allowing, at this moment to login. Is it because I am trying from the US?

Thank you for any guidance.

Base fare is more easily changed, more times, and with less charges, plus a few more details. Economy, you can only change once, changing requires paying the difference between your ticket and the normal fare, and the change has to occur two hours or more before departure.

This web page has a great deal of basic information about trains in Italy.

It is possible to get the senior discount on Trenitalia. You need to join their loyalty program. This can't be done online if you are a non-resident of Italy, but as a non-resident you can fill out a form, email it in, and get a CartaFreccia. When several of us started doing this earlier in the year, there was a very quick turn around. Lately, reports have it taking months (perhaps they hired someone from the US Passport Office :)

Italo trains offer a senior discount without needing a loyalty card. You may want to look at that if your trip is coming up soon.

Only the price, terms and conditions as noted above - the seat itself is identical (and might be that precise seat).

Trenitalia= Check Options on your route before booking. There is a Me & You option on some routes. 2 people for the price of one. We have upgraded most of tickets to Premium class for a better price. You can indicate "senior" if you are over 60. You may have to show ID to show your birth date.
