Purchasing tickets for museums in Florence

I have been trying to purchase tickets for the Uffizi gallery by dialing the number listed in Rick Steve's guidebook but I can only reach a loop for information not what I need to purchase the tickets. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.

If you will be staying in Florence, have the hotel make your reservations now. Much easier than doing it yourself. It worked great for both the Uffizi and the Accademia.

We were there a month ago and the Uffizi was booked for 4 days out. We did find a tour company that got us in. We purchased tickets for the Accademia at the Museum of San Marcos ticket window (about 400 feet away from the Accademia) for two days later. I understand that the time slots have been filling up so this may be more difficult. In our opinion, one of the best museums not to be missed is the Duomo Museum which is behind il Duomo and across the street. Even RS says its overlooked. Get there at 9:00am opening time and you'll have the place all to yourself.

I have been contemplating purchasing Uffizi tickets online. I haven't done so yet, but the website is, http://www.virtualuffizi.com/uffizi/index.htm

I hesitate because it sounds like your ticket is only good for one 15 minute window and if they don't have the time you want, they'll just send you the next best time. I'm not sure if I'm willing to take the chance.

Good Luck!

Both the Ufizzi and the Accademia have 15-minute time slots. This time of year, both sites are very crowded.

We booked ahead to get a time to visit the Uffizi. We called this number 39-055-294-883 and spoke to an english speaking person at the Uffizi. We were able to choose a time to visit and were given a confirmation number and details on where and when to get our ticket. We were not asked to pay anything in advance. At the appointed time we went to a numbered gate, gave our confirmation number and paid for our tickets. The cost to book a time is 3Euro in addition to the cost of the ticket. So in total it was 9.50 Euro per person. It was very easy to do this and saved a lot of time.
