When you purchase tickets for trains, sites etc. are the out of country charges added to these? For example I want to purchase tickets ahead of time to Accademia, I am using my (USA) bank card or credit card. I am in The US when purchasing. Will my cards charge extra because it is an international purchase? Do I need to find out fees before hand?
When you purchase online train and museum tickets they are considered foreign transactions. I've just purchased several of both this week. Each time I've been notified by my credit cards of out of country transacations (I have alerts set up) but both of my cards are visa with no foreign transaction fees (USAA and Bank Of America travel rewards).
Definitely check with your credit card before purchasing.
Additionally many of these transactions want to use some service such as Verified by Visa where they will pop you out to a third party verifier. I got my Visa without foreign transactions fees set up years ago and when I started buying tickets for a trip last September it automatically popped up and was working again.
It's not a huge deal but there may be another hoop to jump through so given everything you probably want to choose one card and stick to it.
Time to look into your card benefits and fees,
