Is it possable to buy my ticket when I get to Rome? I tried to book though the web site but couldn't with my credit card. We will be in rome on 4/20(monday)and I want to buy a ticket for Venice on 4/25 (saturday, but this is a holiday in Italy; I am worried that tickets might sold out or something.
You should be OK since there are multi-trains to Venice. What holiday on the 25th?
April 25th is the Liberation of Italy and therefore end of WW2 for Italy. It's a public holiday.
There is a way to purchase tickets in advance from Trenitalia with your Visa card. I've done it recently. CLICK HERE to see my previous post on this subject. The process is not too tricky but you have to pay attention. When it asks for your first and last name, I would use the name you registered with.
You know that there are about 25 trains a day going to Venice from Rome. It's very hard for them all to sell out although an Italian holiday is certainly a time when this could happen.
Yes you can buy the tickets when you first get to Rome. Worst, worst case if the trains are all full, which they usually aren't is to buy a ticket on a regional ticket from Rome to Florence and when you get to Florence, but a regional ticket to Venice. No seat reservations are permitted on regional trains. Yes, they are slower but first come, first gets the seat. You can stand if no seats. The trains will be empty in Rome and Florence. Like I said, it's the worst worst case.
Ciao Erin,
April 25th is a holiday but you still should be able to get tickets. Larry's instructions do work for most folks and if so... there are many NEW pricing options on Trenitalia - If you buy today you might squeeze under the wire on the 15 day promo (Is it still the 10th in the US??). Or if you need OTHER tickets, the advance ticketing may save you some money!

Hope that helps! You'll have a great time traveling by train in Italy. They're fast and easy to use! Follow Larry's instructions to avoid Trenitalia "frustration!"
Ciao,
Ron
Thank you everyone,
I tried with the Larry's instruction but it is not working for me. At this point, I just have to buy a ticket when I get there. Can I take a bus to Venice from Rome? Just for incase.
