I will be in Venice on April13 and I am trying to purchase tickets to the secret tour at the doge's palace. Does anyone know a website that I can purchase tickets in advance without being overcharged? I have found one for 26 euro but I think tickets are only 16 or 18 euro in Venice. Do I need to purchase these tickets in advance? I would appreciate any help.
I took this tour (and loved it) in 2004 and am trying to rack my brain to remember how I did it. I think I called the museum from home and they gave me a confirmation number. Make sure you ask for an English-speaking tour. Tell them what time you want to go. You pay at the museum. Below is a link to a tripadvisor site that may be helpful to you.
It was a great tour and well worth it! Especially the hidden floor that you can't see from the outside.
Good Luck!
Here is the official website (sorry that the previous link didn't work, maybe at least this one will for ya...)
We purchased tickets from the link directly from the Venice museum website - Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia
They sell tickets here:
http://www.vivaticket.it/evento.php?id_evento=409912&idt=566
Seems like the website is pretty iffy on whether it works that particular day, so I'd just give them a call. I think our tickets were 14 euros each.
I HIGHLY recommend that you purchase these tickets in advance NOW. We did this tour in October 2008. When we were picking up these tickets, several people were turned away that were just walking up to try and purchase them. All of them were being told that the tour was completely booked/sold out for at least the next 3 days. There are a limited number of slots available for each tour and the tours in English I think are only 3 times per day.
Lauren- link does not work.
At the office, does anyone have the direct link to the museum ticket office?
Also check out veniceconnected.com - they sell tickets to the tour, museums, and vaporetto passes at discounted rates. You can pick them up when you get to Venice.
There are also combination tickets. If you buy a museum pass, there is a discount on the secret tour, also if you buy a tour of the clock tower (not the bell tower).
Lauren I tried the second link you listed and was not able to get it to work; it says that tickets are not available.
Yes I mentioned above that the site they use to sell tickets wasn't currently working and is pretty iffy, and you should just give them a call. I just looked at my receipt from teleart.org and we paid 12 Euros per person. If you can't find their #, it is ++39 041 42730892. I did call at one point (when teleart site wasn't selling the tickets) and got through quickly.
Chani, I tried to use the veniceconnected.com website but I couldn't find any option for the secret tour at the doge's palace.
I bought mine through tickitaly.com. If that link doesn't work, try just going to Google and searching on just tickitaly.com.
On that site, different cities are listed on the left pane; scroll down to Venice and choose "Doge's Palace, secret" for the Secret Itineraries tour. They do cost 24 Euro and that's what I paid last year. The 18 Euro ticket is for EU residents. They suggest you put in two times so that if one tour is full they can book you on your second choice. I definitely would purchase in advance, as I also saw people getting turned away when they tried to buy tickets onsite.
Wesley,
I tried to get tickets for the secret tour too and it didn't work out. I went through Doge's Palace and you end up going through the prisons, chambers and whole area. Although I wasn't toured through, it was very very cool and I did hear snippets of a tour passing by me. So if you can't hear all the inside info, you can still see the sights. :)
I was able to get the
http://www.museiciviciveneziani.it website to work this morning. Tickets to the secret tour were 18 euro a piece and you pick them up at the museum. Thanks for the help everyone.
We had our hotel make the reservation for us.They gave us a number that we presented and skipped the line.It was a specific time and cost a few euros extra. The hotel charged nothing.
does anyone know what the secret itineraries is for the clock tower? this was listed on
http://www.museiciviciveneziani.it/frame.asp?sezione=prenotazioni
Thanks.
