Purchase a Firenze Card for 17 year old?

It is rather unclear whether you need a Firenze Card for a 17 year old American citizen or not. The Card's website makes reference states that, when an under-18-year-old is entering the state museums with a Card-bearing parent, they are to "collect the free ticket and buy a reservation-paid directly at the Firenzecard reserved access entrances." What do they mean by "buy a reservation?" Can it be for a later time, forcing you to return later in the day, thereby negating the main benefit of the card?

Any insight and suggestions would be appreciated!

When you purchase the firenze card for the parent, have the teen present. The desk clerk will "add" the teen to the parent card on the computer. You do NOT need to buy the teen a separate card. It does not matter whether the teen is a citizen or not. We did this with our daughter. This means that the teen can only attend sites with the parent present. I would have the teen's passport to prove age when purchasing the card. It would be difficult for any desk clerk to look at a 17 year old and try to determine adult/minor status.
