Punta Regina in Positano

I booked a 5-night stay at Punta Regina in Positano for September 2019. Would others be able to share their experience/knowledge of this hotel & its location? We’d like to stay somewhere higher up for the views (we enjoy walking/hiking so an uphill climb doesn’t bother us). It’s my understanding that Punta Regina is on the other side of town as Villa Rosa, Hotel Marincato, etc. and that the views are therefore a bit different. Are we missing out in terms of views/location by staying at Punta Regina versus the other side of town? Just second guessing if we made the right decision or if we should consider switching.

Note: We originally planned to stay at Villa Rosa, but they require a non-refundable deposit and we prefer to have the option of free cancellation (as there is a slight chance that we may have to push our trip to 2020 & will not know for certain until December - but we didn’t want to wait until then since hotels in this area seem to book well in advance). Our budget is around $450/night.

Thanks for any input!

Not familiar with this hotel but just googled it and it looks lovely.
I wouldn't have any second thoughts... but to entertain the conversation thought I would give some insight.

Positano is really small ; in terms of the perfect postcard view/photo from Positano I envision the main church in the image surrounded by the colorful cliffside houses on the right of the frame, the small beach at the bottom with then the sunset, sea and distant cliffs making up the left side of the frame. That is basically the view from the Marincato Hotel and from the road near it.
Based on the position of your hotel being to the west side of the church you would not get that ; I assume that is what you mean compared to the view from the other side?

Not being as high up and on the other side of the church, your view will from the hotel be mostly of the sea.
It is still a beautiful view, offers a rooftop terrace and if staying 5 nights you will see the views around the Marincato area numerous times.

The side you are on feels a little less commercial, is great for strolling around ; flowers are everywhere as are wonderful views to the see that appear around most corners and will only be a short walk away from anything in the town. It is such a tiny town, your hotel position is not the critical, if view from your hotel room is the #1 priority than maybe something else is better for you ; but I am sure others disagree with my best view location and would prefer a view of nothing but the azure sea with nothing obstructing.

We stayed at the Hotel Eden Roc ; great views, a little above the Merincato but on the main road so good for the bus but a little far from the beach/dock plus had to contend with the street being right in front. Location of the Merincato seemed a little better even though not quite as high ; to me that hotel has the #1 view in town but reviews of the hotel other than the Luxury rooms that are really pricey are a bit mixed from what I had read. Liked about Eden Roc that all room classes have the same private balcony and the identical sea view. Villa Rosa is lower situated I suspect it has great views from the top floors but not nearly as impressive views on lower floors, bottom floor views would be by no means bad but you are not as high up as ideal to me.

Yes, that’s exactly what I meant about the views. Thank you so much for the helpful insight!
