Puglia - Itinerary suggestions

Hello everyone

New to the forum. Thanks for any responses in advance.

My partner and I are planning a trip to Puglia from 26 August - 11 September. It is my final trip in Europe before I head back to Australia, so I would like to make it count! We love beaches and quaint towns. We are attracted to Puglia because most beach places we have been (such as in Croatia and Turkey) have been overrun with beach clubs and/or tourists. Whilst we'd expect Puglia to heave with holiday-goers during this period, perhaps there might be a more authentic vibe.

We do not have a car. We are thinking 4 nights in Monopoli, 2 nights in Lecce and 4 nights in Gallipoli.

Any suggestions on alternatives or places to skip I'd be most grateful!!

You will find plenty of beach clubs, but there are also nice natural beaches--however, they are more difficult to get to without a car. Maybe with a bus or by booking a driver you can get to some of those. South of Monopoli, I recommend Parco Naturale Regionale Dune Costiere da Torre Canne a Torre San Leonardo. North of Gallipoli, I recommend Parco naturale regionale Porto Selvaggio.
I never made it to Gallipoli, but Monopoli and Lecce are wonderful. I get the sense that Gallipoli can be a bit party-hearty in summer, but hopefully things are winding down by September.
Monopoli is a good base for visiting the nearby coast and the Itria Valley, but you'll need to scope out the transport, which can be a bit more tricky than in other parts of Italy.
Hard to say about the transport, but you might prefer to be in one of the smaller towns that is closer to nice beaches. Hopefully someone else can advise, but if you google "Puglia" and "Beaches," you will get extensive info. It will give you a sense of where the rocky beaches are and where the sandy ones are, etc. Good luck!
