Where do you recommend as a base in northern Puglia? We will be 5 women, not renting a car and utilizing drivers so we wanted a town centrally located and close to restaurants, shops, etc.

Monopoli, maybe? Trani could work, but it's a bit far north to be considered centrally located. I think you might have to sit down with a map and start Googling any prospective town until you find what you're looking for.

I'd pick Lecce - a nice city for walking, shopping, and restaurants!

Got to agree with Lecce...a mini Sienna. Good walking access to lots of stuff. You can also look at Otranto, which is on the sea, but not as central as Lecce. Pick up a Lonely Planet guidebook and do some reading.
