Puglia? flights from Milan?

We are going to Lake Maggiore TO VISIT FAMILY for almost a month. Have 5 extra days after we visit Venice. Already been to Rome, Florence, Amalfi Coast---- but not Puglia.
Thinking of flying to Puglia for 4-5 days.... is this expensive? Does it make sense? Are there flights from Milan? Cheap flights? How do I inquire?

Also want to visit Barolo Wine country while at Lake Maggiore two weeks. From where do we rent car? any recommendations for place to stay in Barolo area?

There now are non-stop flights from both Milan and Venice to Bari, the gateway city for flights into Puglia. The flights take about 90 minutes and cost as little as $25 and up.
www.Skyscanner.com has flight details.

You can reach Bari non stop from either Milan Malpensa or Venice with Easyjet or Ryanair. They are low cost airlines so prices should be reasonable, just be aware of their baggage rules.

Prices of flights vary depending on time of travel and other factors. Regarding being expensive, if your frame of reference is Oakland or the Bay Area in general, everything in Italy will cost you about half of what you are used at home.

Regarding renting a car, the Malpensa airport, which is only 45 minutes from Lake Maggiore, will offer the most options for rental cars. The famous resort town of Stresa, on the lake, also has an Avis-Budget office.

I use AutoEurope to rent cars in Italy.

Barolo is the name of the pretty town the homonymous wine comes from, so that’s a place to consider staying.
