I'm just starting to plan a trip to the Puliga region for the end of September. Single female traveler, will rent a car. What is the best airport to fly into, and what are some 2-week itinerary ideas? Thanks!!
Definitely need more info. I did a month in Puglia last year solo, S, 75+, public transpo only. Where flying into? Hiking? Foodie? Museums? Beach? Again, need more info.
I’ve flown into Rome each time I went to Puglia, but it takes me three flights to reach Rome from my home airport, using Delta.
Itinerary ideas are in my trip reports. I traveled solo both times - no issues. Learn some Italian for this region - both as respect & also you will be glad. : )
Since your question is almost a duplicate to another post today, my trip reports & comments are in this post:
There are two airports in Puglia, Bari and Brindisi. They are not so far apart that you cannot see much of the area from either though. Lufthansa flies to both from US via one stop in Germany.
One tip for beginning planning I use is to search “airports + region.”
Depends on which US airport you are flying out of.
United now has direct flights from NYC to Bari but I don't know if they operate into late September.
For the rental, I highly recommend SIXT, with outlets in Bari and in Brindisi.
We spent 2 weeks traveling Puglia in 2022. Flew into Bari and departed from Brindisi. We used public transportation/train. Towns we spent time in were; Polignano a Mare (2 nights), Lecce (4 nights),
Grottaglie (2 nights), Ostuni (3 nights), Monopoli (2 nights), Brindisi (1 night).
I’d say favorites were; Grottaglie- a ceramic artisan town. Amazing pottery and history. Also loved Monopoli. Oh heck - we loved all the places.
What a great trip.
