Puglia area

I will be traveling to the Puglia area in Sept. for 1 week, but I can't find very much information for that area. Do you have any suggestions?

My husband and I spent a week in Puglia in August 2011 and we LOVED it. We can't wait to go back. We stayed near Cisternino in a rented place we found online. We used the Lonely Planet "Puglia and Basilicata" book to get started-- some of the information was lacking or incomplete but it got us going. Beautiful towns-- Cisternino Ostuni Polignano a Mare (gorgeous seaside town) Grottaglie Martina Franca-- and many others we didn't get to visit. Food was simple, delicious, and affordable. The weather was HOT-- this was late August. In the middle of the day, everything (everything) would close and all you could do was lie by the pool or beach. You definitely need a car, and a GPS, and you need an Italian phrasebook. Navigating the local roads always took us longer than the locals said it would. People were friendly. The local wines were cheap and delicious. We really recommend this area. If you're interested-- I wrote about our trip on my blog: http://unquiettime.wordpress.com/2011/08/31/when-the-saints-go-marching-in-puglia/ (Search "puglia" and you'll get the other entries-- there are some pictures too) Also check out this article by the NYTimes Frugal Traveler on Apulia--

We were in Polignano a Mare in early Sept and agree it is a beautiful town! However as a seaside resort the high season is July and August. Even though the weather was fine, the town seemed empty and like many of the towns we stopped at along the coast the beaches were empty (at Polignano a Mare the beach is more a cove). We also used the Lonely Planet book and found it helpful.
