Puglia and Abruzzo - town recommendations

Ciao!

My friend and I are taking about a 9 day road trip in May, mostly in Puglia and Abruzzo. I have much of it planned but need to fill the itinerary with 1 more stop, which is where I'm hoping you come in.

Current itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive in Naples -> train to Salerno. Spend afternoon and night there.

Day 2: Rent car -> Matera by early afternoon. Spend 2 nights here.

Day 3: Matera.

Day 4: -> Aberobello by late morning. Spend 1 night here.

Day 5: OPEN. (Bari? Foggia? Notably not choosing Lecce as this is opposite our route).

Day 6: -> Abruzzo to spend 2 nights at an agriturismo. Leaning towards Emidio Pepe just north of Pescara but also open to suggestions!

Day 7: Abruzzo/more wine.

Day 8: -> Rome for 2 nights before flying out.

Before anyone jumps in, I just did my honeymoon in the Amalfi area a few months back, so while I know there are other gorgeous spots near Salerno, we're choosing Salerno for ease as it seems like a reasonable journey by public transit from the airport. I certainly don't want to begin my car rental in Naples!! haha

Also open to various recommendations (restaurants, excursions, museums, etc) in these other towns.

Thank you all in advance!

I’d just stay in Alberobello (or a nearby town) another night and explore all the cute little villages, Noci, Locototondo, Cisternino, etc.

No, not Foggia. I'm going to suggest Trani, a lovely seaside town with an interesting historical center, fishing boats in the harbor, and a Romanesque church that is right on the water rather than inside the center. We stayed for several nights at Albergo Lucy and parked right in front of it. Nice owner.

If you like Roman ruins, stop by the Saepinum Archaeological Area in Molise on your way to Abruzzo --- the day we went there, we had the whole place to ourselves.
