Public Wi-Fi restrictions to be removed in Italy

Wow! Now I know why I could only find WI-FI at McDonalds and very few other places in Italy. Thanks Michael!

This sounds like a good thing. I did get many WI-Fi signals, but due to the law, they were all secure. Contrary to the details of the article though, at most places (Bars, Cafes, etc.) I did not need to show ID, just request the passcode, which in most cases was the same code each day. I think maybe they saw that the law was in the first place holding back wireless use, and in the second, not effective in monitoring use. I suspect the number of "hotspots" is actually much higher, just designated as "personal" use, even at that Bar.
