public transportation from mestre to Plazza Roma in Venice

Could someone advise me about the cost and frequency of bus or train from hotels in Mestre to Plazza Roma in Venice?

Your hotel will most likely sell bus tickets and be able to advise you as to the closest stop. I think it was around 2.80 for day bus pass to Piazzale Roma and back. the buses run around every half hour.

A few years ago my wife and I stayed in Mestre to save money that we spent quickly in Venice :-) We had a bus stop across the street from our hotel and had to buy tickets in a little shop just down the street. The information in the above reply is accurate, and I'm sure your hotel will help you. It took about half an hour to get to Venice and was a piece of cake. However, we had trouble on the way back. Plazza Roma seemed much more chaotic in the afternoon/evening. We had difficulty finding the right bus to take us to the right place, and couldn't find anyone to help us, but perhaps we were just looking in the wrong places. Of course, it all worked out in the end, and after that first day we had no more problems, but I would suggest leaving yourself a little extra time on the way back just in case :-) Good luck, we miss Venice, enjoy it!

Yes, Piazzale Roma is very busy and can be confusing. What I do, and has worked well for me: Make note of your hotel info (name and what street it's on), make note of which stop you're leaving from in Mestre as well as which busline and take a pic of the signage. When you get to P.Roma take a few minutes to note which space your bus parks in and again take a couple of pics to help remind you after a long day of sight seeing. Each space should also have a sign next to it telling you which buses pick up there. Unless something goes wrong (happened to me one time) your bus will pick up in the same spot, but be sure it's your bus as several routes may pick up in the same spot at any given time. Worse comes to worse you have pics to show drivers where you want to go back to in Mestre. I'd suggest getting to your bus a little early as they can fill up quickly.

And FWIW it's Piazzale Roma, not Plazza Roma. "Plaza" is a Spanish word. The Italian equivalent is "Piazza", pronounced "pyAHT-sah". "Piazzale" means "big piazza" and the emphasis is on the second "a" - "pyaht-SAH-leh". That ends today's Italian lesson. :-)
