We are going to be in Cortona for a week at the end of April. Does anybody know whether it’s possible to get buses to surrounding towns? Was hoping to get to Sienna at a minimum but can’t figure out public transport and where to get schedules.
There are trains and buses to Siena and elsewhere
( proper spelling matters when researching transportation)
www.Rome2rio.com
is my go to starting point when researching transportation options but always go to the actual train/ bus site for confirmation and purchase
You can usually find/ follow links from Rome2rio to the actual train/ bus options
Were you thinking of going to Siena as a day trip? As I recall that's a somewhat lengthy trip and probably not the best idea. In addition to the travel time shown on Rome2Rio, you also have to add time for the trip from Cortona down to the rail station. As I recall, Cortona is served by two rail stations, Camucia (~3 km from Cortona) and Terontola (~10 km from Cortona). Given the travel time, you wouldn't have long to explore Siena.
Is there any possibility you could adjust your Itinerary and spend a few days in Siena?

If you start typing a village name in the From/To fields the system will show some suggestions, just like Google. Train stations are identified by the FS logo.
The bus that goes from Cortona to FS Terontola is the SU4. Not surprisingly there is one leaving in 20 minutes, for kids going to the train station after school. Not a bus I'd dare to take.
Thank you so much. I just downloaded the app and checked out the web link. They were really helpful.
