Public access from castelrotto Italy to hiking ptions if you do not have a car

We are planning on being in Dolomites for a week in October, but will not have a car. If we have lodging in the town, will we have easy access to buses for hiking locations & cable cars?

You would be better off staying in Ortesei or not me of the other towns in Val Gardena, although some of the smaller hotels will be closed by then.

There is a bus along the Dolomite road and there's probably a connection from Castelrotto but it would be much easier if you stay in Ortisie. Ask your hotel for the nearest bus stop, schedule and costs.

Enjoy the trip!

Bus access shouldn't be a problem. As I recall there's a bus area just downhill from the main part of town in Castelrotto, so easy to get to Alpi di Siusi or other towns in the area. Your hotel will be able to provide all the details on schedules, ticket costs, etc. Which hotel were you planning to use in Castelrotto?

Lots of buses and your hotel will help. The gondola from Siusi to the Alpe di Siusi is a short bus ride from Castlerotto. I usually recommend staying in the Val Gardena, but most of the lifts from Ortisei close by October 8. The one to the AdS from Ortisei remains operational until Nov 2. Val Gardena summer lift schedule here.

The Renon Plateau out of Bolzano is also a short ride from Castelrotto. And there are many lower level hikes such as the Veduta del Re and the Oswaldo Wolkenstein Way that are closer to Castelrotto. Do watch out for the hike from Marinzen (lift closes Oct 15) to the Alpe di Siusi. It was labeled "easy" but we encountered a boulder field we had to scramble over and a narrow path along a steep cliff that was rather intimidating. Not fot the faint of heart! But the rifugio at Marinzen is delightful.

You will have NO problem catching the bus from Castelrotto. The buses run frequently and are lovely.
We stayed at Hotel Cavallini d' Oro; it was a one-two minute walk to the bus to Alpe de Siusi. There were quite a few other routes, too. Just check with your hotel.

Castelrotto is a great jumping-off spot!
