Hello, and thanks to everyone who contributes their knowledge and insights to the forum. I am exactly Rick Steves' age (well, one month younger), and the only time I visited Italy was probably when he was first there: I flew on Laker Airways, wore a cumbersome backpack, traveled with a Eurailpass and stayed in youth hostels. Things have changed over the decades! My question: Every hotel I've booked in Italy has a spot to insert a promo code. I'm wondering what they're all about. Can anyone help? Oh, I only book through official websites.
Promo codes are basically discount codes
Doesn’t mean the hotel actually offers one but the slot is there anyway
You could always email the property and ask for a code
Typical response is “there are no promos being offered at this time”
They are promotional codes that hotels utilize to increment demand. It's one of the marketing strategies they use.
These codes are sometimes available in the newsletter from the hotel (or chain), if you receive one, sometimes they are available on other affiliated travel websites. Other times they are available on social media, or some travel bloggers also have theirs in their websites which one can use at specific hotels. Try to google NAME OF HOTEL/HOTEL CHAIN PROMO CODE, or in Italian CODICE PROMOZIONALE (and name of hotel). Sometimes you have to sign up for their newsletter to get it. It might save you a few bucks, like up to 10%.
