I'm trying to use skype to call and make museum reservations as per Rick Steves Advice using the quoted number, 011-39-055-294-883. when I dial that number I get a message that this number is not in service? anyone else have that problem or know the good working number?

I just called and got through at this number:
01139055294883, just dial it all in a row without pause.
I selected the English and went through several steps, then was on hold for about 5 minutes, then was told all operators were busy and to call back later....
Another poster on this site has suggested finding someone who speaks Italian to call for you, as there are likely more Italian-speaking operators than English -speaking.

Did you use Skype when you called? The number you called is identical to the one I tried. ... I also got a message that the call was going to cost .30 cents/which is the rate for cell phones. I really was confused with what I got.

I called this morning and had no problem getting through. I was only on hold about 2 minutes! You can also reserve Medici chapels at this number. that was a bonus I didn't expect.

I finally got through using SKYPE...apparently my problem was being unfamiliar with skype and international calling. After selecting country, the first five digits of the number were already entered for me and I only had to enter "055294883". It took me three more tries until I could enter "2" for English and "4" for booking, but I finally got through and have confirmation numbers. Hooray!! It pays to perservere even if you are a technology challenged Senior.
