Private Water Taxi from Marco Polo to Venice Hotel - questions

We plan to take a water taxi from the airport to our Venice hotel. Is this something that needs to be arranged ahead of time or will there be taxis ? It will be probably around 6 p.m. when we need a taxi. Also, are you expected to pay in cash or do they take cards? thanks for your help in answering these questions.

You walk to the end of the dock and there should be one waiting. Cash would be safe but someone else is going to comment on current situation.

Hello,

On our last couple of trips we opted for the private water taxi from Marco Polo to Venice. I prebooked and paid by credit card in advance. When you get there, you just show they your confirmation code and they assign you to a boat. On our most recent trip a few weeks ago, we arrived at about 10 am and it seemed all of the water taxis were waiting for assigned passengers. I am unsure what to expect arriving in the evening, but if you know you want to take a water taxi I would suggest booking in advance so you know there will be a taxi available for you. Upon booking, you enter your flight details so they will be aware if you have any delays.

If you opt not to book in advance, I anticipate they would accept cash and I know the water taxis you can rent by the trip or hour near San Marco were accepting Euros.

Safe travels!

We arrived in the early evening this past May, and the Venice airport was dead, and water taxi folks begging for business. We took the Alilaguna instead. Enjoy your scenic entrance into this magical city!

You can pick up taxis at the Airport. We have also arranged ours in advance through the hotel for a slightly better rate. We paid by card in advance.

I don't remember the exact details, but maybe because I shared a water taxi with another person from my smaller hotel, I had tough baggage handling down and up from the boat. 2017.

hey hey tracy
we've used the private taxi 4 or 5 times and loved it. it is the pricier way but we had 4 in our group to share the cost. as sam mentions the motoscafivenezia.it site, it will only be for you and your "group." we reserved ahead of time on website to make sure we had one after we arrived.
as aussie mentions venicelink.com click shuttle, you share with someone else with a minimum of at least 2 people without having to wait. reserve with the info on forms. we always wrote down address and small map of place (may have arrows how to get there)
check the times of your arrival and if they charge more for evening and later rides. it was nice to have them help with our luggage lifting and getting as close to hotel/apt we stayed at without pushing/pulling over bridges and uneven pavement. there may be some short walks. enjoy the ride, a fabulous way to get to venice and see the beauty of it.
some will say something about the costs, we just added into our expense account or put money away in a "piggy bank" to save for it.
aloha

My experience pre-covid was negative - maybe 2018? Like the RS book said, I went to the dock. I vaguely recall reading about booking in terminal but not sure or if the guidebook mentioned the Shared a taxi with another couple. Both of us had hotels that had canal entrances. We were both left off at a "nearby" location and not our individual hotels. Explanation given was tide fluctuations. When I mentioned this when checking in to my hotel, the concierge essentially said we were taken advantage of. Lesson learned. I am not stupid....I learn from my mistakes. Next time, contact hotel pre-arrival with recommendations on best way to get there. Esp any first or second timer to the city.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and information. I am going to use the website a couple of you provided and book a water taxi directly. The current price is 135 Euros and there is a 20 Euro charge to pay directly to the driver because our hotel is on the list of "more difficult places to get to." That's okay. We are looking forward to arriving directly at the hotel. I. have been to Venice before but back in my backpacking youthful days arriving by train and traipsing all around on foot. Looking forward to arriving this way.

I appreciate everyone's assistance.

Hi there,

We are arriving in September. How far is the walk to the pick up point for the private water taxis?

Thanks in advance.

There is a moving walkway on the skybridge from the upper level of the airport to the boat dock. Its about 400 yds.

It probably seemed farther than it was because we were tired. I will note that you can not take the moving sidewalk if you have a cart with your suitcases on it. Access is blocked by some posts that only people who have no suitcases or are carrying or pulling a suitcase can go through. We had to walk on the side of the moving sidewalks to the dock area. I will say that the water taxi from and to the airport is worth the expense. It’s exhilarating!

The last time I did it, there was no moving walkway or skybridge. You humped your luggage the quarter mile to the dock outdoors (in January). But yes, the boat ride was sweet.
