I'm wondering what is the best and most efficient way to book private transfers between hotels? Last time in Italy we took trains everywhere. Unfortunately, this time our trip is more limited and I don't want to waste time on a train or train station (or have to travel at inconvenient times). I'm specifically looking for transfers:
From Florence to Sestri Levante.
From Sestri Levante to Milan.

Yikes. Both Milan and Florence are a long way from Sestri Levante. I'd definitely take the trains: those will surely get the job done faster than a car, and would definitely spare the small fortune private transfers would cost.

If you want try to stop at some other place so as to use it and discover other things.
Have you checked w/ the hotels at which you will staying? Hotel staff typically know of good providers and have a vested interest in making sure you arrive nicely.
I also would consider the train a pretty simple option, although one connection is required on the route from Florence. From Sestri Levante to Milano Centrale, direct trains depart every few hours and take about 2.5 hours.
