Private transfer to Capri

Hi Everyone

We are a group of two couples, who will be starting our Italy tour in Capri in May 2019. Our preferred flight (no, we haven't booked yet) would arrive around 7pm in Naples. Does anyone have any recommendations for a private transfer from the airport to Capri? This year the last ferry leaves at 9pm, so if that holds true for 2019, I don't want to worry about making it. Also, we will be coming from the west coast of the U.S., so we will be weary and just want to start our trip with a bit of pampering. I realize it will be pricey, but we believe it will be worth it to be able to turn over thinking too much on our first day with "feet on the ground".

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks, Elle

Elle, just my humble opinion but I'd reconsider trying to get to Capri at night off an international flight. It's just too potentially messy and risky a scenario should you experience any delays at all. It would be much, much easier to just stay in Naples on arrival night and continue on to Capri the next day.

From the Naples airport you'd have to transfer to the docks, and from the marina in Capri UP to the town itself. Your luggage, depending on how much you have, may have to be portered separately to your hotel depending on where it is. There is no public transport of humans beyond the piazza, and some of the hotels require a little bit of a walk from there.

But if no one has a transfer reco, explore some here:

Yes, it will be quite expensive and some of them may not operate later in the evening.

I realize it will be pricey,

In my book $1000 for a 32 mile journey deserves a descriptor better than 'pricey'

I am with Kathy in regard to go the next AM

Also it looks like the latest the copter service suggested above flies is before 9PM

I was thinking the same, Joe! ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Consider too that Capri is an expensive destination to begin with so your hotel is likely going to be in the 'pricey' range. By the time you got to a boat, I'm guessing you'd be making the journey in the dark (or nearly so) and arrive too wiped to want to do anything but shower and fall into ANY bed...which is going to be a darn sight closer and less $$$ in Naples.

Why not save the 'pricey' room & transfer for when you can make the journey for more reasonable cost in daylight, being rested enough to better tolerate and even enjoy the process plus have more time in which to take advantage of the more expensive property?

There are a lot of pricey island locations, particularly the Carribbean, where transfers after dark are simply not possible. They are too dangerous. You need to change your travel plans.

Edit: We flew from London to Naples, for Sorrento. But our 7PM ish arrival made public transportation impossible, so we spent a night in Naples and went to the Archaeology Museum in the morning, after a nice walk around. The earlier post, about how "pedestrianized" Capri is makes very good sense as well. After two separate days on Capri (two different vacations ... ), I really wondered how the highest-end hotels are able to "pamper" their guests with the transfers. You have chosen a relatively exotic vacation spot with difficult access. It's not that different from our East Coast trip to Hawaii. You have to make adjustments. And be ready for a lot of warm walking on Capri.

Capri.com and Capri.net are identical websites.

I agree with Kathy. When you arrive from the West Coast in the evening, your day is pretty much a wash. I would book your first night (or few) in Naples, have a nice dinner, get some sleep, and then go to Capri either the next day or a few days later (I would spend a few days in Naples, personally, as there are a lot of gems there). If you're going to do an expensive transfer, it should be feasible (preferably not at night) and worthwhile (when you can actually take in all the beauty of the transfer). It's also hard to appreciate being pampered when you're very tired, so I would save that to when you are decently rested and already on the island.

The other alternative is to pick a flight that doesn't arrive in the evening, but I don't know how feasible that is given the flight choices you have from your origin.

Thanks for all your replies. I guess we will change to arrive earlier in the day to make it to Capri. Last year we started our Greece trip in a similar fashion. We flew from Seattle to Santorini in a long three flight trip. Woke up, went out on the terrace and enjoyed the sunrise and early morning. Weโ€™ve traveled all over the world the last two decades, but that morning, listening to the put-put of the tiny boat heading across the caldera while drinking our coffee was one of our top travel moments. Weโ€™re intending to have a similar get-over-jet-lag experience on Capri. The two islands have a lot in common......touristy, pricey, crowded but with good hiking, great views and great people watching.

Once I have our itinerary nailed down, I may seek some opinions to tweek it a bit. Thanks again for the input.
