private transfer from Varenna to airport in Milan

Four of us in our early 70's have decided we prefer to seek a private transfer from our hotel in Varenna to the Sheraton Hotel at Malpensa, the airport in Milan, rather than going by trains. We'd appreciate any suggestions for companies that provide this service. Thanks!

I cannot imagine why you would want to do this, but you may want to inquire with your hotel about a potential service or search for services in Milan. The train ride is short and it's an easy transfer to Malpensa from Milano Centrale. Although I will admit that the station is not my favorite. But the trains are not crowded and you get a lovely view of the lake as well. Or, train to Centrale and you will probably have no trouble finding a service there to your hotel. Even the cab ride is relatively easy and affordable.

A quick Google search found these. Yikes on the price.

If you take a taxi to the Varenna train station from your hotel it's only 5 euro. The train is so easy and comfortable. You can do it. 😊We stayed at the Hotel du Lac in June. Very nice.

You could also inquire with the Blacklane Limo service or ask the hotel if they can arrange transportation.

Okay, Marc, you really got my attention now! So, I've begun looking at the train schedules from Varenna to MXP. And by the way, we're taking the trains from Venice to Varenna, so I guess that will give us a chance to familiarize ourselves with the Milan Centrale station. You're right that it is much cheaper this way. I guess it comes down to a question of how much do we want to pamper ourselves. (I'm thinking, I'm thinking.........)

Okay, so here's what I've found after my research: Train costs about 20 Euro; Flytolake/ Lariobus 36.25 Euro; total time by train: almost 3 hr. by minivan 1.5 hr. I know we have to decide this for ourselves, but what would you do??

My research shows 2 hours and 15 minutes by train for most of the hourly departure times. 19.70 EUR pp.

The Fly to Lake/Lario shared shuttle from Varenna costs 40 EUR pp for 4 people, takes 1 hour and 30 to 45 minutes.

cmoate2000, hope I'm not throwing your thread completely offtrack but it's worth the question...

Are you choosing to stay in Malpensa because of a very early flight? And are you otherwise spending any time in Milan on this trip? Reason I'm asking is that there are some worthwhile things to see in the city that can be covered in just 1/2 day or so. If your flight schedule allowed, I'm wondering about taking a train from Varenna-Esino to Centrale, staying near the station, doing some looking about, and then taking the Malpensa Express train (50 minutes or so) to the airport in the morning?

We did a similar thing only coming from Bergamo, and taking a Terravision shuttle bus to Malpensa instead of the express train as we had a pretty early flight and the shuttles started running earlier than the train.

Two of our group have a ghastly 6:30 a.m. flight to the U.S. the next morning, so that's why we're staying at the airport. Also, we are only spending two nights in Varenna and want to stay there as long as possible to enjoy the scenery and relax. Thanks for asking.

Gotcha. Yep, that's an even earlier departure time than we had. Oh well! :O)

Carroll, considering the number of people it may make sense to spend the extra 12-15 Euros each to take private transport just to avoid the headaches that Centrale can bring along with the reduced travel time. Sometimes saving some money is not worth the other costs. For the peace of mind that may be the way for you to go.

Best of luck!

Thanks, Marc, I appreciate your response, and that's our thinking. I got a price quote from Flytolake/Lariobus for 145 Euro for the four of us. So we're seriously considering them--has anyone out there hired them before??

Carroll,

If you have a large budget, you could consider Italian Limousine Network as they operate in that area. It probably won't be cheap but the service is fantastic!

The Sheraton Malpensa is also a bit pricey (especially room service) but very comfortable and very convenient as it's connected right to the terminal.
