Should we stay in Catania for tours to Agrigento, Siracusa etc or stay in hotel for tours in these areas. Trying to not change hotels too often. Have plans to go to Taormina, Catania, and Tropea. Have hotels for previous picked out. We are hiring drivers/guides. Tyia

Its really your choice. Have you used google maps and determined the time it takes to get to those places? For me, Agrigento is too far for a day trip. We stayed there the night before so we could arrive at opening. I would stay in Siracusa to see Siracusa, because for me, its too far for a nice day trip and its such a lovely place, I'd want to stay there.

Just curious why Tropea is included? For the beaches? Just seems like a schlep.
And then you have to return to Sicily to fly home, or are you flying home from Lamezia Terme? Or taking public transport back to the departure city?
And yes, don't base in Catania to see Taormina or Agrigento--lots of time in the car, and the nicest time to be in Taormina is early evening.
