Private tour of Sistine Chapel and Vatican

We’ll be visiting Rome in May and I welcome any recommendations regarding names of individuals/tour companies that provide private tours of Sistine Chapel and Vatican; we will be a group of 7 and are looking for ~ 3-4 hour tour. There is a lot of information available on the web, but I am hoping travelers’ share personal encounters that were awesome tour experiences - Thanks!

I recommend checking the website for Context Rome. When I toured the museum and basilica with them, the guide was a PhD-level art historian with a specialization Baroque art, as well as a practicing Catholic. She provided an amazing perspective, and was also quite enjoyable. I had been to the Vatican on several trips before taking that tour and still learned so much.

I've used Context Travel for walking tours in many cities and always had good experiences.

Patricia, you might try Walks of Italy. They do a great Pristine Sistine Tour which gets you in early, before the crowd, then goes through the Sistine Chapel, Vatican Museum and St. Peter's Basilica, and gets you out by about mid-day. Many on this forum have praised this tour and company. I'm confident they could cater to your group and any special needs (like kids, teens, mobility issues, etc.) They have a toll-free number in the US where their staff is very helpful.

When you say a private tour of the Vatican do you mean the museums or other areas? I know you want to visit the Sistine Chapel, which is part of the museums but what do you mean by "a tour of the Vatican" as this can effect the answer.
