Private tour guide recommendation in Rome.

Our daughter and her husband are going to Rome for the first time. Our daughter has traveled more than her husband . We would like to gift them a walking, day tour guide for either the Colleseum/ Parthenon or Vatican in early June. Any recommendations of who to contact? We took the 7 days in Rome with Rick Steves 15 years ago so doubt our excellent guides are still available. They are independent, travelers with out physical restrictions, would just like to enhance their experience, especially at the Vatican as our experience is that even with the RS tour it was crowded and overwhelming. I understand it’s only more so now.

Ms Wally Zanchetta [email protected] +39 3394772562 (she uses WhatsApp) is a colleague of RS guide Francesca Caruso and is equally top-notch, expert and endlessly engaging and entertaining. She guided me at the Baths of Caracalla end of February 2025 and her rate was €90 per hour with a 3 hour minimum. She kindly knocked off €30 for my being solo and was more than generous with her time. She responded quickly to my initial email inquiry and if she is available when needed, definitely book her!

Keep in mind a private guide has no ability to impact overwhelming crowds at sites such as the Vatican Museums or the Colosseum and choosing other historical landmarks not as highly visited, especially during peak tourist times, is super smart strategy for a greatly improved experience and far greater value for the money.

Thanks, I understand the wisdom of going to less visited sites. Crowds are overwhelming to me. This is my son in law’s first visit to Rome and for him the Vatican is a must. I will pass on the recommendation along with whatever I can arrange.
Perhaps they can work it out on their own,
