Private Tour (2-4people) for One Day in Rome?????

My husband and I are going on a cruise in Oct 2009 and will be in Rome for a day. To maximize my time, we are looking at booking a private tour.

Has anyone done a private tour, if so I would love to hear about your experience. We are would like a private tour catered to our needs and includes driving (pick up from the dock).

I see Jason Spiehler is highly recommended, but I am unclear if he is still with Roman Odyssey or does private tours? Anyone have contact info for him?

I have not ever been on a tour in Rome but I have heard very good things about Roman Odyssey!!! Good luck and have fun!!! You can do it on your own as well and the historic district is pretty compact and easy to do. You can get a map from any hotel or tabaco shop and set out on your own 1 day journey. Have fun!! Happy travels.

Check with your cruise line. I'll bet they have all kinds of connections (from whom they probably get kickbacks). Consider the Hop On/Hop Off Busses and start early. They leave from Termini (train) Station and you'll probably arrive there from the port. They hit all the major sights in a 2 1/2 hour circle of the city and if you do the whole thing once without getting off, you can make decisions what you really want to see more in depth. Cost us about 28 Euros for a 24 hour pass. Check out Rick's Back Doors to Europe guidebook. I'm certain there will be guides and all their contact info there. Good luck.

RoninRome would be a good choice. You realize that you are about an hour's drive from the port to Rome. You could take a train to Termini and start there but that would probably take closer to two hours.

Sarah,

You might also consider Francesca Caruso for a private tour. She's listed in the Guidebook and provides outstanding and very interesting tours!

if you have an opportunity to take one of her tours, you'll understand why I recommend her so highly.

Happy travels!
