Private guides in Rome

We’ve been wowed by our Rick Steve tour in Rome and now are going on our own and wonder how we can get into the Colesium and Borghese on our own. There are 4 of us and we feel very comfortable through out Rome but not sure about the quick access to certain places.
Any recommendations for a guide?

Agnes Crawford (understandingrome.com) would be my first recommendation for a private guide in Rome. My first tour with Agnes was at the Vatican Museums as part of a Context Travel small group tour. I booked a private tour of the Jewish Quarter and Trastevere with Agnes for my upcoming trip to Rome. She’s an outstanding, knowledgeable, and fun guide. As you’ll see on her website, she offers tours of both sites you ask about.

An aside about your concerns for quick access to the Colosseum and Borghese... If you buy your tickets in advance in both places, you can skip the long waits and get in faster. That said, both locations merit a guide to learn more details.

Happy planning!

Yes, you want Francesca if you can get her, but I think Rick keeps her pretty busy.

If you are thinking you need a guide just for "Quick access", you skip very long ticket lines at the Colosseum by simply pre-ordering tickets:

You will not be able skip the security check queue, however, which can be quite long for individual ticket holders during high season. Even private group tours/guides - such as "Walks of Italy" - and are not able to completely skip security checks, although they move through most quickly due to preferential entry.

There is no ticket queue at the Borghese as pre-reservations for limited spots in each 2-hour time slot are mandatory, thus their excellent crowd control. You are expected to arrive at least 1/2 hour early (I advise showing up earlier than that) to collect your tickets and check items not allowed in the museums. Even individuals taking privately guided tours have to check banned items.
