It is my parent's 50th wedding anniversary and as a present I would like to get them a full day private guided tour of Rome during our trip there at the end of May. They're both history buff's so a guide with some inside knowledge and access to sights would be preferred in addition to good English.
Any suggestions?

I would also highly recommend Francesca Caruso. She has an exceptional knowledge, her tours are always interesting and she's a really nice person.

We liked Rome so much but we only did 2 paid tours and 1 free one. Our guides with Sky ToursRome are local with excellent english and an excellent sense of humor. I do think you need a guide for the Vatican and Colosseum.
