Welcome to the forum!

So first things first?
How many days do you have to spend in Rome and Florence?
What do you want to see? What attractions are you interested in?
Who are your traveling companions, if not going solo?
What sort of price range are you looking for?

I'm asking as details such as traveling with young children, mobility impairments, budget, and limited time can figure into the picture. The more you can tell us about yourself/your trip, the better we can help you. :O)

For Rome, Rick Steves lists a few recommended guides in his guidebook, and we contacted one, who was completely booked. But she recommended Marta Marsili, who turned out to be an outstanding Rome guide for our trip in 2021 and again this year. Her English is excellent, so she was easy to understand, and fabulous for asking our own questions, and learning about Roman life, as well as its history. She is also in demand as a guide, so contact her with your dates and sightseeing interests before she’s booked up as well.

As for Florence, we haven’t yet hired any private guide.

My family and I toured with Marta Marsili in 2016 and I agree with Cyn’s assessment above . We enjoyed touring Ostia Antica with her on one day and San Clemente/Coliseum/Forum/Palatine Hill on another.

We toured with Paul Costa of Tuscan Tour Guide in Florence the same year. He was simply one of the best guides we’ve ever toured with. https://www.tuscantourguide.com/
