We are planning 2 1/2 days in Rome and are thinking of hiring a guide for one afternoon, but we really don't want to pay 150 Euros for 2 hours which is what we have found so far. Any ideas? Are there students who do this?

Check out Presto Tours, Through Eternity Tours and Angel Tours. All Three are Highly Recommended Private Tour Companies.
Maggie, I just got a lead on a guide highly recommended from a friend who used her last year. I do not yet know the price. I will get back to you when she returns my email. When are you going?

You can't do any bettr than Ron Phillips.
He not only made a full day delightful but also provided additional guidance by meeting us at the railroad station the following day to assist us in getting to Orvieto for an afternoon.
And his rate is much more reasonable than what has been mentioned.
He also got our Roma passes for us and we simply reimbursed him what he had paid.
His web site is http://www.roninrome.com/ and his email address is [email protected].
Maggie,
You might consider Francesca Caruso. She's an outstanding and very knowledgeable Guide, is licensed and her tours are excellent and very interesting. She's listed in the Italy book, so you can get the details and prices there.
Happy travels!
