Private Guide and Driver for Day Trip from Rome to Pompeii?

We are taking a 10-day RS tour of Venice, Florence, and Rome in October. We would like to hire a private guide to drive us from our hotel in Rome to Pompeii (and back again) as a same-day trip. I know it will be expensive, but does anyone have any recommendations for a private car service?

It's about a 150 mile drive to the Naples area. Most take a fast train from city to city.

If you look on the internet, you can find drivers and guides in Naples to take you around the area.

I agree that you'd be better off taking the fast train to Naples before using a car service, but accepting your request: I usually ask the hotel for a recommendation because their contractors have a great incentive to please the hotel-referred customers. That's how I got our 8-hour driver from Sorrento to the Amalfi Coast and back to Sorrento. It was about 235 Euros, and only 50 or 60 miles for the day. So you'll be paying hundreds of Euros.

I know it's annoying to have someone tell you what to do, but the point is that this trip (which is a lot to bite off for a single-day, no overnight, daytrip) is uniquely suitable for public transportation. Whether you choose to do the extra work is up to you. It's frequently discussed here, so you could use the Search box to learn a little more about the self-guided option.
