hi all I would like a reasonably priced driver that speaks english to take us to Pompeii and positano for one day from the cruise port in Naples thank you.
As someone who has been in Naples off a cruise ship a couple of times, you don't time for both IF you have be back onboard by later afternoon. Pompeii is massive and can easily absorb a whole afternoon and should do so if you are really interested in that site. But if you just want to say you have been there, then you can duck in for an hour. Keep in mind that if you have a driver, you will be paying him to sit in the park lot. And Positano is a long ways away over very slow roads that can easily get clogged with traffic. If you ship departs around 10pm or later, you could do with a driver. In that case I would skip Pompeii and used the driver and time to tour all of the Amalfi coast from Positano to Sorrento. That would be the best use of a private driver. With a late afternoon departure, the risk you run is getting stuck on the road between Positano and Sorrento. I would not do both. And Pompeii is far easier to do using the train.
The first time many years ago when we were in Naples our departure was delayed for over two hour while waiting for a tour bus to return. The announcement was that a traffic accident had blocked the road so we waited. The ship doesn't wait for private drivers.
yes been there before..you are right and spent 2 days Id like to take the train to pompeii and then on to sorrento and take the last hydeofoil to the harbor,,,,maybe wont have a lot of time in Sorrento
We just spent 2 weeks in Italy in Oct/Nov. We used a great car service to drive us from Rome airport to Positano. The owner and his drivers all speak flawless English. It is not inexpensive but we were a party of 4 and when you consider what an excursion costs per day on a cruise ship we felt it was reasonable. We used them 3 different times during the 5 days in Positano. Definitely worth every penny. If you would like his info please message me.
