Two private tours have been suggested. One is Tau Touring out of Lucca and the other is Sunny Tuscany out of Florence. If you have had experience with either one, please give me your opinion. I will be staying in Lucca for 2 nights and want to take the day tour from Florence. Tau Touring is charging 500 euros (it would have been 350 if we were in Lucca) and I have not received a quote from Sunny Tuscany as yet. I am open to suggestions if you know of other companies. Since I won't rent a car this is the only way I can see the smaller towns of Tuscany. I expect it to be expensive but I want it to be fair and worthwhile.

I have never been to Lucca, but have been in Tuscany, and it is beautiful. In general, I have found the TripAdvisor reviews for private guides to be fairly useful. There are guides/drivers listed for Lucca that you have not mentioned above, so you may look there. Search for "Things to do" in the city of Lucca on the TripAdvisor website -- private tours are on the second page of results.
It also looks like there is a guide based in Lucca on the Tours by Locals website who does Tuscany tours, but it looks like her prices are substantially higher than that quoted above.
I left my Rick Steves Italy guidebook in Italy, so I can't check to see if he has any recommended guides in Lucca, but you may check the guidebook if you haven't already done so, too.
