Suggestions/Private car service Milan airport to Bologna

Hello, i’m flying into Milan from New York in October with my daughter and my husband who has health issues that require him to take frequent naps. We have worked our itinerary around his nap needs (including flying business class) except for the leg between arriving at MXP from JFK and arrival to our destination of Bologna.

I’m trying to compare
1. taking the train from MXP Milan to Bologna versus (likely too much after an 8 hour flight)
2. Using car service (pricey, but allows him to nap).
3. versus flying to Bologna and then taxi to central Bologna (3 tickets needed)
4. versus staying in a hotel upon arrival and then taking the train.

For a regular traveler, the train would be much preferable and affordable , but the nap issue is very real, and there are three of us which might make a one price car service more reasonable, than at first glance.
The benefit of a car service would allow him to nap on the way to Bologna.

I’m seeking your recommendations for a car service that you have been happy with.

(Although a car service will be pricey, there are three of us traveling so three plane tickets to Bologna may be more than a car service. And an overnight stay in a hotel near MXP prior to taking the train may also be more pricey than a car service. When I identify a car service, I can do a comparison and choose, which option is best overall.).

. If you do have a car service/van recommendation, I hope you will share it with me.

Much appreciated.

Why not fly directly to Bologna’s airport (BLQ)?

You are aware a car service is likely to be ~$700.

You really want a 3+ hr drive after, presumably your flight from Calif.?

At the car cost, you may want to think about flying to Bologna, as already suggested by Kenko

What kind of health problems? If you can't fly to Bologna I think you should consider the train. It will be a lot cheaper, and also faster. A car can't compete with a 300 km/h train.

Have you already purchased the NYC to Milan air tickets?

If not, have you priced the NYC to Bologna fares? I picked a random Oct date and the difference of NYC to Milan or Bologna was not huge.

There are no direct Milan to Bologna flights, so no one is suggesting flying between those two cities, but rather making Bologna the destination for your flight from NYC

If your husband can sleep in a car, then that may be the best solution.

I got my cost estimate from -- https://www.suntransfers.com/ --

No personal experience, but comments on this forum have generally been positive. Used it just to get a basic idea on cost. Some other provider may be less but not by a lot. MXP to Bologna is ~265 km. My observation has been that a car service runs a bit more than a euro per km, that the driver has to drive, so 265x2=530, plus his time and mileage to get to MXP to do the pickup.

Hopefully those with experience with a car service from Milan can help out with suggestions.

Good luck

My only comment on flying into Bologna is that every time I have used Bologna they have used the stairs to the airplane and then you had to cross the tarmac. It may just have been the flights/carriers I was on, but for someone with medical issues that might become mobility issues I would confirm the situation for disembarking in Bologna.

The issues you are dealing with are yours, but if you want to share your concerns/issues people will be able to provide better advice.

My $.02,

Why not a "BUSINESS AREA SILENZIO" class train ticket? You can have a comfortable 1 hour sleeping in silence over the train. Purchased in advance the cost is around 40€ per person.
