In May, I have one free day & one free night in Palermo before joining tour group. Want to visit a friend in Modica. Bus takes 4.5 hrs, too long, waste of limited time. Train is complicated, transfers, 5+ hrs. Anyone have experience with reliable car service at a fair, decent price? I'd even consider car service one-way to Modica, return by bus.

Peg-try contacting your hotel. We had our hotel call us a cab one morning to get our rental car to drive to corleone. When our driver heard our plans he suggested that we hire him to drive us ther and back as the road was difficult and we could leave Palermo in the afternoon for our next stop. Cant remember what we paid him but we were very happy with the arrangement when we started the drive and it was way more complicated than I had anticipated. Also, his Italian helped us a great deal in the small town as I was looking for info on ancestors. It was well worth it for us to get there and back very quickly and we enjoyed his company on the drive!
